Rahul's Map

I did my mapping on a trip from OCAD to my friends house on 95 D'arci. My map is pretty straight foreard and simple, and it only gives u the line direction to the destination. I indicated the path in colour just so it is more bold and stand out more, and easier to rem, and shows it like a path instead of jus the road of a map. I also indicated traffic lights to show how many lights they will see on the way to their destination. So incase they see more than two in my case, then they either passed it or went the wrong way. I have also very briefly indicated how far or how many block the walk is. And showed sign of the main places you will pass such as the AGO. Even though my map is very simple, I think it is fool proof and even a stranger can get to my freinds house without getting lost, which is the main point. You should and give her a surprise visit. Don't say I sent you. Enjoy!

I like the bold colour and style of your map, it makes me want to try the route to your friend Jen's! The only part that is a bit confusing are the instructions with regard to turning left and right, they need to be directly under and related to the turning place, via an arrow or another sort of direct visual relationship. Also there is no turn instruction for your last left turn, which made me confused about which turn instruction related to which turn on the map.

These sorts of instructions are always tricky when you are relating a journey through space and time to a 2-D map, which actually looks upside down in relationship to the voyage through physical space. Try turning your map the other way (180 degrees) so that the user can actually follow the map as they use it!

(I am familiar with this, as I can't distinguish my right from my left, so I always end up turning maps upside down so that they relate directly to my journey and the turns that I will have to make - but this makes them very difficult to read!)

This is a good, straightforward response to the assignments. I like the use of logos and bold elements that will probably appear multiple times along the route (ie. the AGO's signature logo).

Martha's points are excellent. When creating a map, one must be very thoughtful about how it is oriented. This is something I hope we can talk more about in class today.
